Rain is the lifeblood of this desert, and a whole lot of things suddenly appear when it falls, both animals and plants. Spadefoot toads come out of their burrows as if re-born, seeds that could have been lying dormant for years spring into bloom, and if the rains are really good, birds that have already nested once in the spring may be induced to nest again.
